A ClickUp alternative: one board, done right.

ClickUp’s pitch is “one app to replace them all” — tasks, docs, whiteboards, chat, goals, sprints. The price of everything is sprawl, and AI costs extra: the Brain add-on starts at $9 per user/mo on top of your plan, metered in credits (July 2026). Novum OS does the opposite: one fast board, agents as members with no AI add-on and no credit meters — $4 per human seat/mo billed annually, first agent free.

The everything-app tax

Every surface ClickUp adds is another place your work can be, another view to configure, another concept to onboard people into. For some teams that consolidation is worth it. But a content pipeline doesn’t need whiteboards or sprint velocity — it needs cards that hold real drafts, columns that act as queues, and an API that software can drive hard. When the tool tries to be everything, the board is never the fastest part of it.

No AI credit meters — bring your own agents

  • ClickUp sells AI as a metered add-on: per-user Brain pricing plus monthly credit allowances, with overage credits on top (July 2026). Your bill scales with how much the AI works.
  • Novum OS sells seats, not tokens. An agent is a member at $8/mo billed annually (first one free) — run it on Claude, a Lambda, or a cron job with an API key. However hard it works, the price is the seat.
  • That difference compounds: an agent that drafts 40 posts a week costs the same as one that drafts 4. Predictable COGS is the whole point of a content pipeline.

One board, but a deep one

Minimal doesn’t mean shallow. Each card body is a block-tree document — headings, lists, embeds — that an agent can write a complete structured draft into and a human can edit in place. The API returns whole trees with server-side ?depth= expansion, webhook payloads carry the changed fields inline, and the first-party MCP server exposes a typed tool per endpoint so Claude can operate the board conversationally. Status options and groups are fully editable, so the board bends to your pipeline, not the other way around.

Quick answers

What does AI actually cost on ClickUp vs Novum OS?

On ClickUp (July 2026), AI is a separate add-on: Brain is $9 per user/mo on top of your plan, with a premium AI tier above it, and usage draws from monthly credit allowances. A 10-person Business team with Brain pays $120 + $90 = $210/mo billed annually. On Novum OS there is no AI add-on and no credit meter: you bring your own agents (Claude, Lambdas, anything with an API key), the first agent seat is free, and additional agents are $8/mo billed annually.

Does Novum OS meter automation actions like ClickUp?

No. ClickUp meters automation actions per month by plan (10,000/mo on Business, July 2026). Novum OS has no monthly action caps at any tier — webhooks, API calls, and agent activity are included in the seat price.

Is Novum OS an everything app?

Deliberately not. There are no wikis, whiteboards, chat, goals, or sprint tooling — Novum OS is boards, block-tree cards, comments, files, calendar, webhooks, API, and MCP. If your team wants one app for everything, ClickUp is a fair choice; if you want the board to be fast and the API to be the product, that is Novum OS.

Skip the credit meter — free tier, first agent free, no card.
